Classroom Options.  Safeway offers in-person, distance learning (via Zoom) and Online (Self-paced) classes. Scroll through the Safeway In-Person classroom locations, as well as our school partners programs to find a convenient time and location.

Missed Classroom Lessons. Make-up lessons can be taken in-person or by distance learning via Zoom. Students can register for individual missed lessons by logging into their Safeway student account. Click the <Student Login> button in the top right corner of our home page and enter your last name, date of birth, home zip code and PIN. Go to the Classroom Lessons tab and click <Register for a Make-Up Lesson>. We are also happy to help over the phone by calling our office during business hours.

Once a make-up lesson is selected, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email two days before the lesson. Your scheduled make-up lessons are listed on the Classroom Lessons tab. If distance learning is selected, click the <Zoom Login Information> button for the scheduled lesson for the meeting ID and password.

Please note, students must miss the lesson before they can register for a make-up lesson. Make-up lessons cannot be arranged in advance.

Blue Cards.  Students attending in-person classes who have completed all 10 lessons and are up-to-date on payments will receive their Blue Card from the instructor after the last class.

For distance learning students, we mail the Blue Card to students. The Blue Cards are generally mailed out a day or two after the session ends. An email informs you the Blue Card has been issued and mailed.

Permit Testing.  Permit Tests are offered by appointment only. To schedule a Permit Test appointment, the State instructs you to go to drive.mn.gov (do not add www. to the beginning). Navigate to the Appointment Box, click Schedule An Appointment and  select Drivers Services.  For permit test, select “Class D Knowledge Exam”

BTW Lessons. If you do not see any lessons available online, please feel free to call the Safeway office (651-351-9150). If you are willing to drive to another location, we may be able to offer you a lesson sooner in another drive zone.  If you need all three lessons, please plan at least two months out.

Road Tests.  Road Tests are available by appointment only. There are no walk-in exams allowed. To schedule a Road Test appointment, go to drive.mn.gov (do not add www. to the beginning). Navigate to the Appointment Box, click Schedule An Appointment and  select Drivers Services.  For the Road Test, select “Class D Skill Exam”

Safeway is Hiring!  We are looking for patient, mature adults to instruct students in the car. The Dept of Public Safety performs background checks and exams. If you are interested in learning more about this position, please call our office.

FAQs

How do I get my Zoom information?  Students who are registered for a distance learning class will receive an email a few days before the start of the session with the Zoom login credentials. That information can also be found in the student’s Safeway account. Click the <Zoom Login Information> button on the Classroom Lessons tab.

Students who are registered for a make-up lesson can also access their Zoom login credentials on their Safeway account. Your scheduled make-up lessons are listed on the Classroom Lessons tab.  Click the <Zoom Login Information> button for the scheduled lesson.

How do I get my materials for a distance learning class?  Students who are registered for a distance learning class will receive an email a few days before the start of class that includes a link to the Classroom Handouts and driver’s manual. You can print out the documents before class begins. The classroom materials can also be picked up at the Safeway office in Roseville by calling ahead.
