Safeway’s Parent Class | Safeway Driving School

Safeway's Parent Class is available in both a distance learning format and self pace. The class is not mandatory but it presents helpful information to parents. Parent class via distance learning & self pace qualifies the student for reduced practice hours.

The topics covered in the Parent Class include:

Minnesota’s Graduated Driver’s Licensing system
Safeway’s classroom training and terminology
Safeway’s behind-the-wheel program
Advice for driving with your new student driver
New traffic laws and driving maneuvers

Our distance learning Parent Class is conducted via a secure Zoom meeting, allowing parents to attend from home. The class lasts about 90 minutes. State rules require parents to have an audio and video connection to the class. Accordingly, parents must attend the teleconference class on a laptop, tablet or desktop computer with a web camera and microphone. A cell phone is not an appropriate device for attending the class. To register, please view any classroom calendar on our web site and click the <Sign Up> button for the Parent Class you wish to attend.

Our self pace class is conducted via a custom online learning portal that was created in collaboration with licensed driving instructors from Minnesota, allowing parents to complete this from home. To register, Go to home page, click on “Register For Online Class” button. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Self Pace Parent class” green button. After the registration is complete, you will receive an email with your pin and the link to the online learning portal.

If you cannot attend or view our Parent Class, please make sure you read the Parent Letter you were sent with your Service Agreement. We also ask you to review the Learn More and For Parents tabs above.

PLEASE NOTE

PARENT CLASS INCENTIVE: The 50-hour practice driving requirement can be reduced to 40 hours if the parent or guardian attends a distance learning Parent Class and receives a completion certificate. Only parents who attend Safeway’s distance learning Parent Class or Safeway’s self pace Parent Class will receive a completion certificate. While helpful and informative, viewing the online videos in the student a/c or on youtube does not qualify for a completion certificate.
